Particle size and characterization analyses provide the agricultural industry with results that ensure regulations are met. Valuable analytical information can help improve the quality of pharmaceuticals for veterinary use, feed, soil drainage, fertilizer potency, dust control, and much more.

Particle characterization analyses are conducted on medicines used by veterinarians and food products for agricultural livestock in the same way as for human use. From the development of active ingredients to problem-solving in the manufacturing process, particle size distribution has a significant effect on the performance of a drug.

The stability, aesthetics, rate of absorption and bioavailability are strongly affected by the size of the particles that comprise any pharmaceutical powder or dispersion. The particle size and characterization such as bulk and tap density as well as powder flowability of processed animal feed has an effect on digestion, packaging, and handling.

Other uses for particle characterization in the agricultural industry include analyses for soil, fertilizer and chemical testing. The particle size and characterization of soil predicts behavior including stability, drainage, retention, nutrient holding capacity and more. Fertilizers are required to meet a minimum frequency of measurements to ensure quality, and due to safety requirements regarding dust issues, the monitoring of fine particulate is required. Agrochemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and nematicides are also analyzed to ensure that they meet quality and safety requirements.

Examples of agricultural materials we have analyzed include:

  • Animal Feed
  • Atrazine
  • Biochar
  • Calcium Carbonate
  • Clay

  • Fertilizer
  • Fungicide
  • Herbicide
  • Pesticide
  • Sand
  • Silt
  • Soil
  • Veterinary pharmaceuticals

This is only a small representation of the material types we have analyzed for the agricultural industry.
